DAILY MANAGEMENT HUDDLES
Building Capability Through In-Role Coaching on How to Organize, Develop and Run Daily Huddles
Huddles or stand-up meetings are a means to achieve increased transparency, co-operation and co-ordination of a management team or a work team. However, most huddles in industry are conducted in the form of briefings, where in most cases the leader or manager does most of the speaking. Often little or no inputs are sought from the team members. The team should spend most of their time on forward looking discussions which are value adding. The time in a huddle should be used to actively engage team members on their thoughts and ideas, and for team learning to take place. Leaders, managers and teams will learn how to conduct effective huddles through appropriate in-role coaching.

The Kata of Karate
The word 'karate' comes from the word 'kata'. Kata can be thought of as a practiced routine set of actions that one has internalised, which become a habit, almost an unconscious way of doing things. Toyota kata is hence an internalised routine method of learning from trials, making adjustments that are necessary, and implementing the next improvement in moving from the current condition towards a target condition. It is the real Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) actions that allow us to continuously improve.
